| From time to time, I'll do a post describing a new tool that I discovered that may be of use to bloggers. Here is the first.
What is the best way to break up the monotony of a boring-looking, text-heavy blog? Obviously a visual bit of art is needed. But if the art sucks, then it doesn't work. What about a cartoon. What about a good, professional-looking, funny cartoon? But who can afford such a thing. Why, you can. Go to Left 'Toon Lane, which is described to me thusly: |
| T Rex :: Tools of the Trade |
It is mostly amateur cartoonists looking for exposure and entertainment. Our goal, other than to have fun drawing cartoons, is to provide illustrations for other people's blogs and publications, either something already there, or by specific request. We don't do it for money (we would if we could, but nobody's paying so far), but would like to be seen more widely. If you see something
there you might like to use at [your blog] just email me or the specific artists directly for permission. We pretty much always give it so long as you link back to the Lane, the individual's own site, or both, but like to keep track of where our stuff is being used. You can also look at different cartoonist's individual styles and ask for something specific, if you're working on a particular story. Some artists use Creative Commons licenses. Those who do will post them with the cartoon, and those can be used without additional permission, if linked back to the Lane.
Here's a very funny example from mapaghimagsik:
